This past weekend, September 18, 2020, a new educational and tropical oasis opened for Houstonians and visitors to enjoy. The 132 acres of land have been dedicated to “learning, discovery, and horticultural beauty, with outdoor gallery spaces displaying a collection of tropical, sub-tropical, and arid plants from around the world to showcase the biodiversity that thrives along the Texas Gulf Coast.” Since many Houston residents have been cooped up in their homes for many months, this outdoor museum provides a welcomed escape from the ominously still environment of quarantine. The Houston Botanic Gardens is in its first stage of development and will offer a number of gardens to explore, as well as family-friendly activities to keep children engaged and learning. The Houston Botanical Gardens will host numerous cultural events to celebrate the varied cultures Houstonians in the upcoming months. Cultural events: October 2, 3, and 4 – Celebrating Asia October 16, 17, and 18 – Celebrating Africa October 30, 31, and November 1 – Celebrating the Mediterranean What a new treat for Houstonians!
