Hallie Keller is a Memorial mom with not only a passion for photography but a unique sense of capturing her subjects in a lively and vivid way. We recently caught up with her to find out what made her take the leap and open her own studio.
Previously I owned a fun photo studio in Oklahoma City and found that having my own business and a dedicated space in which to create and collaborate was one of the best times in my life. Later after moving back to Houston, I dreamed of having a studio here. For years, I would bug previous tenants, Weidner Hasou & Co.) and later, Perdomo Group/Compass, to see if they had outgrown my “dream space.” Finally Kim Perdomo said, “Yes!” I am excited and proud to carry on the legacy and good vibes that these strong, female business owners started in this space!
Swoon: When did you realize you not only enjoy photography but also have a talent for it? Both of my parents were hobbyist photographers, but I didn’t realize my love for photography until after I had my first child—and took thousands of pictures of her! Twenty years later, I have built a professional, reputable portfolio of work.
Swoon: What is your favorite thing to shoot? I know this may be like asking a mom her favorite child but… You’re right, I love it all, but recently, I have enjoyed helping entrepreneurs and small businesses level-up or re-brand themselves. We specialize in capturing the personal brand, personality and spirit of our clients through relaxed and fun portrait shoots. Then we photograph their design projects, retail products or workspaces. The result is eye-catching, magazine-quality images of their complete brand that separate them from the pack. It’s all my favorite things wrapped up in one!
Swoon: Where do you see Hallie Keller Photography in 5 years? That’s a great question, not knowing what even the next month will hold due to the coronavirus. Currently we have in place a “safe practices” studio protocol based on OSHA and CDC instruction for our photo shoots, which allows us to keep serving our clients safely. In general, in five years, I still see myself helping others and our economy by building stronger brands through photography and design. Whether in the future, we are 6 feet apart – or not.
