Each year since my kids were young, we have made it a point, as a family, to carve a Halloween pumpkin. We try and plan it, as an ongoing tradition, for when “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” is airing on television. This year could prove to be a little more difficult now that both kids are teenagers, but if you know me, you can bet your last Jack O’Lantern, I’m going to try!
This year, when I think about pumkin caving, I remember creating the October 2017 Issue of Swoon Memorial. It was about a month after Harvey hit Houston. I asked our magazine’s Art Director, Desiree Lonsway, if she thought she could carve a pumpkin with the words “Memorial Strong” for our tribute cover. She quickly agreed to the task. Little did I know she was a pumpkin carving pro! Being overly impressed with her skills, I asked if she would mind sharing some of her favorite designs with our readers. Here are from a few she has carved (and yes… painted) that might offer a little inspiration to us all as we get out those carving tools and start preparing to create our own pumpkin creations.
