Governor Abbott Appoints Barber To The Texas Veterans Commission
Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Kevin Barber to the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) for a term set to expire December 31, 2021. The TVC serves as the state appointed advocate of Texas veterans as they attempt to secure the benefits rightfully earned in exchange for their service in our nation’s armed forces. The Texas Veterans Commission was created in 1927 as the State Service Office to assist veterans of the Indian wars, Spanish-American War and World War I.
Kevin Barber of Houston is the founder and principal of Veteran Energy, LLC, a retail electricity provider, President and founder of 95 Bravo Resources, LLC, a wholesale energy services company, and business development lead for Enchanted Rock, Ltd. He is also founder of the Power to Give Back program, an initiative created to provide resources to military veterans and aid in their employment. The program also drives efforts to support other local charitable organizations that provide further services to veterans. Previously, he served as trading team leader at Integrys Energy Services, director of Midwest Trading at Southwest Energy and leadership roles at Duke Energy, Panhandle Eastern and Associated Natural Gas.
Prior to his extensive career in the energy trading arena, he earned an honorable discharge from the United States Army, where he served as a non-commissioned officer in the 1st Military Police Company of the 1st Infantry Division as a K-9 patrol dog handler. He serves on multiple veteran service organization boards and is a supporter of veteran entrepreneurs in the community. Barber received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany and an associate’s degree in criminal justice from SUNY-Adirondack. He lives in the Memorial area with his wife and daughters.
