Memorial has a new resident! Club Westside is excited to announce that Pera, Club Westside’s oldest female giraffe, gave birth to Baby Enzi Monday, Nov. 8 at 10:34 a.m. Enzi was born into the Westside community at 5’8” and 130 lbs.
Enzi, meaning “powerful” in Swahili, and his mother have since completed wellness checks, and both have been declared healthy by medical professionals. After about a month of monitoring to ensure his health, Baby Enzi will join his mother at the outdoor habitat at Club Westside to engage with the rest of the giraffe herd. The average gestation period for a giraffe is 453-464 days or approximately 15 months. Newborn calves grow very quickly and can nearly double their height in the first year.
Club Westside is a USDA certified facility that provides animal experiences for members in hopes that they will learn about the struggles of animals in the wild today. By learning about the club’s animals, each person can make a difference through donation and support of local zoos and aquariums, as well as international conservation programs.
