Tostada Regia is a local authentic Mexican restaurant right off Gessner and Long Point. We decided to sit with Jesus Gonzalez, the owner of Tostada Regia, to see what his journey was like to open such a big franchise. With seven locations in Houston and a few in Mexico, Jesus has truly become a successful entrepreneur and lives here in the heart of Memorial. Tell us a little about Tostada Regia. What makes it different from all other restaurants?
We love what we do and there is nothing that makes us happier than a satisfied customer. We focus on preparing great food. We only use the best ingredients and we cook everything with love and passion. Service is something else in which we take great pride. We strive to pay attention to every detail to ensure our customers experience the best possible. We are very proud of our roots. We really enjoy it when people come to Tostada Regia to indulge in their favorite dish. This is a huge satisfaction for us. Constant innovation and our resilient spirit help us face these unprecedented times amid the coronavirus pandemic.
What would you say is the key to running such successful businesses like yours? How many locations do you have in Houston?
Hard Work, honesty in everything that we do, commitment to providing quality in what we prepare and the service we offer are our focus . We like to keep out feet planted on the ground and manage our resources in a conservative fashion, build a great team, and mainly utilize the support we have for each other as a family. Since our beginning 17 years ago, I have been able to work side by side with my wife. We support each other through the good and the bad. I think that all of these factors have been key to our success. We currently operate 7 restaurants in Houston.
Was it hard to open a real authentic Mexican restaurant with so many Tex-Mex restaurants? Our goal is not to be the same as the competition. In that way I can say it wasn’t hard. Authenticity was the number one key to our brand success. If you want to stand out in today’s competitive market you need to focus on authenticity.
Tell us a little more about your party room, is that available for the holidays?
Tostada Regia Long Point has a great convenient location with an amazing party room. This is a great spot to host any upcoming private events. The capacity for the room is between 80 to 120 people. We can customize packages for social or business events. We do have the room available during the holiday season. Call us to get more information.
What do you like best about living in the Memorial area? We enjoy so many things about our Memorial community. For example, we like to be surrounded by all our wonderful neighbors and friends, the friendliness around the community, and the beautiful atmosphere year round.
What advice would you give to someone who has big dreams of owning a successful business like you? Break your dreams down into specific and measurable steps. Think of your goals all the time and go get it. No matter how tired or discouraged you feel, just keep going, stay positive, and be persistent. The key is to keep going and to find some motivation. In my experience, my family was my motivation.
