The last thing anyone needs the first thing in the morning is a car that won’t start. Once every now and then is bad enough but imagine if your car would NEVER start, and even worse, you couldn’t afford to get it fixed.
This is an unfortunate scenario for many, particularly single women, widows, and wives of deployed military, who don’t have the ability to fix their vehicles on their own or to pay someone to do the repair work for them.
A local nonprofit called God’s Garage is making the necessary repairs or, in some cases, providing a working vehicle to many women who find themselves in this predicament.
God’s Garage is just one charitable organization to receive a grant from the 2019 Memorial Drive United Methodist Women’s annual Hearts & Hands Holiday Market. For 34 years, Hearts & Hands has been a fall tradition drawing thousands to the church campus looking for just the right Christmas gift, home décor, or the yummiest home-baked goodies anywhere.
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, UMW made the responsible decision to change its Hearts & Hands Holiday Market to a virtual shopping experience. This makes the event possible for both vendors and the nonprofits which so desperately need help during these difficult times.
You can shop Hearts & Hands Virtual Holiday Market by visiting HeartsandHandsMarket.org from Oct. 19 to Nov. 2.
Other 2019 grant recipients were Bridges to Life Women’s Unit, Family Point Resources, House of Amos, MAM Pathways for Young Adults, Spring Branch Family Development Center, Newspring, the Women’s Home, and the Wesley Community Center.
The annual Hearts & Hands Holiday Market will be held virtually this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Visit HeartsandHandsMarket.org between Oct. 19-Nov. 2 to browse merchandise from familiar vendors like Mission Stitchers, pictured above.
