Some might know her as the CEO of Crime Stoppers of Houston, but this Memorial resident is so much more than that. Rania Mankarious leads the city’s top nonprofit dedicated to public safety, but her contribution to crime prevention and public safety goes beyond the walls of Crime Stoppers.
The Boston native made Houston her home by rolling up her sleeves and getting her hands dirty. In 2006, with a personal mission to serve families in her community and engage the public to a better society, Mankarious joined Crime Stoppers of Houston as an intern despite being an attorney with a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy.
Fast forward to 2013, Mankarious was named Executive Director and then the first CEO of Crime Stoppers in 2018. Under Mankarious’ vision, she has positively impacted abused children, domestic violence victims, human trafficking victims, homeless animals, entire student bodies and school campuses, neighborhoods and businesses.
Mankarious’ passion for public safety reaches beyond the Greater Houston area. She created the first-ever Crime Stoppers Safe School Institute – a full suite direct service program on proactive school safety that has reached the entire state of Texas and Crime Stoppers nationwide. Additionally, Mankarious has also helped changed camp safety laws statewide in Texas.
The ambitious wife and mother of three has lifted a Houston institution to new limits and boasts an extensive resume and achievements. Most recently, Mankarious was recognized as a visionary leader for her fight against human trafficking.
There are many people serving Houston, but few have done what Mankarious has done for public safety, for her Memorial neighbors and for all Houstonians. Mankarious is not stopping once the fight against crime is over, she is also committed to the success of other women and girls.
