The Stuttering Association for the Young, hit the ball out of the park at the 5th Annual George Springer All-Star Bowling Benefit held at the end of June, at Bowlmor Houston.
Springer along with fellow teammates, local celebrities, Co-chairs and Memorial residents Lara Bell and Melissa DeAyala, Junior Chair Matthew DeAyala, Honorary Chair Dr. Carolyn Farb, h.c., and over 400 fans raised more than $250,000. Proceeds from the event sent children from families-in-need to Camp SAY, a two-week life-changing summer camp for young people who stutter, as well as support the Houston George Springer MVP Camp SAY, serving over 125 local kids who stutter. DJ Senega provided the tunes for guests to hit the lanes for dancing and bowling with Springer, celebrities and young people who stutter. Celebrity Lane Captain roster, included: KTRK’s Greg Bailey, Former Houston Dynamo Brian Ching, CultureMap Columnist Ken Hoffman, Johnny (Bravo) Holloway, Walton & Johnson Radio Show Host Steve Johnson, CW39’s Sharron Melton, KTRK’s David Nuno, and KHOU’s TV Anchor Ron Trevino. Loading up the bases at the event in support from the Houston Astros were Springer’s teammates: Michael Brantley, Justin Verlander, Jose Altuve, Robinson Chirinos, Alex Bregman, Carlos Correa, Wade Miley, Collin McHugh, Gerrit Cole, Josh James, Brad Peacock, Tony Kemp, Jake Marisnick, Myles Straw, Lance McCullers, Tyler White, Max Stassi, Will Harris, Coach Gary Pettis, Coach Brent Strom, Astros Owner Jim Crane.
